Four confirmed dead in Kano explosion

Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of four persons in an explosion in Aba Road situated in Sabon Gari area of the city, saying the blast was from a gas cylinder. There was anxiety after a blast went off in the Sabon Garib area of Kano on Tuesday.

There was confusion regarding the cause of the explosion as some sources alleged that it was a bomb blast. Details of casualties were also sketchy.

Speaking during a visit with his team to the scene of the incidence on Tuesday, the State Commissioner of Police, Suma’ila Dikko, said the explosion was not a bomb blast. Dikko said a one-story building was destroyed, while a private school in the area was also affected by the explosion.

“It is not a bomb explosion; it is a gas cylinder explosion caused by a welder and he is the first victim. Three men and a lady lost their lives as a result of the explosion.” Dikko further said security agencies at the scene will continue the search for other victims trapped under the building, and stressed that the Command has commenced an investigation to ascertain the real cause of the explosion.

The police boss, however, assured residents in the area of their safety and urged all and sundry in the state to be calm. “We will continue the search for the victims trapped in the building. But right now, we have commenced an investigation on the real cause of the explosion, but certainly, it is not a bomb blast.
