CAF decide: Morocco to host CAF Champions League final

Confederation of African Football (CAF) have given Morocco the right to host the 2022 Total Energies CAF Champions League final scheduled on May 30, 2022 The Trumpet gathered.

The continental football governing body received two bids from the Senegalese Football Association and Royal Morocco Football Association.

However, Royal Morocco Football Association emerged as the favourite candidate to host the CAF Champions League grand finale after the Senegalese Football Association pull out in the middle of the race.

Consequently, CAF have may finally decided to jettison the usual two-legged final for a one-legged clash to determine the winner.

In a statement by CAF to announce they have approved Morocco to host this year’s event, recalled that the previous CAF leadership on 17 July 2019 decided to hold a one-legged final in the foremost clubs’ event in Africa henceforth.

“The previous CAF leadership decided on 17 July 2019 that the winner of the Total Energies CAF Champions League will be determined by a one-leg final, instead of the usual two-legged, home and away final,” CAF said.

“CAF received a bid from the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host the final of the Total Energies CAF Champions League 2022.

“The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently withdrew their bid.

“CAF is therefore pleased to award the hosting of the Total Energies CAF Champions League 2022 Final to Morocco. The date of the final is 30 May 2022.

“There are currently discussions underway within CAF to revert to the old two-legged home and away final to determine the winner of the Total Energies CAF Champions League, rather than the one-leg final,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly have written to CAF to appeal that a neutral ground should be selected to host the grand finale of this year’s 2022 Total Energies CAF Champions League competition.

They advised that the continental football governing body should pick a venue outside the country of the four teams that made the semi-final spot.
