Terrorism: Court Strikes 8 of 15 counts against Kanu

An Abuja Federal High Court on Friday ruled on the terrorism charges preferred by the Federal government against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Justice Binta Nyako struck out 8 of the 15 counts against Kanu. The 15-count charges were bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.

Justice Nyako, while ruling on a preliminary objection filed by the IPOB leader challenging the validity of the 15-count amended charges, freed Nnamdi Kanu on 8 counts.
“In this instant preliminary objection application, I have read the counts and come to the conclusion that counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 have not disclosed any offence against the Defendant.
“‘Counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 show some allegations, which the Defendant has to answer.
“The court shall proceed to try the defendant on those counts,” Justice Nyako ordered.
The Trumpet recalled that the IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.
Kanu was arrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria to continue his trial before Justice Nyako.
His arrest and arraignment came as a result of agitations for the actualization of Biafra.
