Lagos pledges to sustain efforts against pot-holes

Lagos State Government has assured residents of its commitment to make Lagos roads motorable all year round as the year 2022 rainy season creeps in.
This assurance was made yesterday by the General Manager of Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), Engr. Lateef Somide, during inspection of a rigid pavement operation, carried out by the Agency along LASU-Iba Road by Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Dump Site in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking on the strategy of the Corporation to further reduce pot-holes and other forms of road defects to the barest minimum, Engr Somide stated that at the moment, LSPWC is massively deploying its Jet Patchers to nip emerging pot-holes in the bud before they degenerate to major defects that may call for more resources to fix, The Trumpet gathered.
Somide said ”if you look at Lagos roads, especially in the metropolis, majority of pot-holes and sectional failures have disappeared due to the round-the-clock approach of the Corporation to maintaining the roads” He added that ”the Agency’s strategy is to ensure that any road labelled pot-hole free remains so through constant monitoring to address new cases as they come up”

While acknowledging that many inner roads are calling for the operation’s attention, the General Manager noted that subject to available resources, many of the inner roads have been pencilled down for rehabilitation this year. This, he said, Lagosians will begin to witness in due course as the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to continuously supporting the agency in all possible ways in the bid to enhance free movement of persons and goods, which ultimately galvanises social and economic activities in the state.
He expressed optimism that the outlook of Lagos roads can only be better by the day due to the collaboration between the Corporation, Ministry of Transportation, the various Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities, Community Development Associations (CDAs) and all relevant government agencies, who are critical stakeholders in the quest to keep Lagos moving all year round.
