26th NUGA Games open in UNILAG

Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has officially declared the 26th Nigeria Universities Games Association (NUGA) tournament open at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.

Those who attended included House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Lagos State Sports Commission boss, Sola Aiyepeku. Gbajabiamila performed the lighting of the NUGA torch at the Sports Centre. The Trumpet gathered.

The minister said he was excited that the Games which end on March 27 were returning after seven years. He urged the athletes to show the spirit of sportsmanship and compete cleanly throughout the competition.

Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said the institution is proud to host the Games 24 years after it last hosted. He guaranteed that all was in place to ensure a hitch-free tournament.

Over 75 institutions, both public and private universities, are competing.

There were music performances from 9ice,Pheelz and some amazing cultural displays from the host institution.
