2 police injured, 1 terrorist killed in Katsina gun duel

Two policemen sustained injuries while one terrorist was killed during a gunfight with suspected terrorists in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, at about 4.30 am when the terrorists attacked a nipping point at Magama-Hirji junction, along the Katsina-Jibia road.

The two injured security operatives were taken to hospital for treatment, while police are said to be combing the surrounding area, to arrest the suspects.

Spokesperson for the police command in the state, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident to newsmen yesterday morning.

According to him, “Today Monday, 2/01/2023 at about 0430hrs, terrorists in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, attacked a police Nipping point at Magama – Hirji junction, along Jibia – Katsina road.

“The policemen engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel and successfully repelled them. One of the terrorists was neutralized and one AK-47 rifle was recovered with four magazines containing ninety (90) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK-47 rifles.

“Money and other exhibits were also recovered. Many of the terrorists escaped the scene with gunshot injuries. Two Policemen sustained injury during the encounter. They were taken to Jibia hospital, treated and discharged.

“Search parties are still combing the area with a view of arresting or recovering more dead bodies of the terrorists. Investigation is ongoing,” he added.
