NDLEA confiscates 4,765 kg of alleged cannabis sativa in Nasarawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nasarawa State has confiscated 4,800kg of cannabis, along with a small amount of other illegal drugs.

The head of the NDLEA in the state, Mr. Dechi Elisha-David,shared the news during a press conference in Lafia on Thursday. He explained that the seizures took place throughout May and highlighted the ongoing issue of illegal drugs, particularly cannabis, flooding the state and the country.

Despite these challenges, Elisha-David assured the public that the NDLEA is working hard every day to reduce the demand and availability of these harmful substances. He credited his team for their dedication, which led to the dismantling of several drug operations in various locations.

Between May 16 and 24, four people were arrested in connection with these drug crimes, and they are currently helping investigators find other individuals involved in drug trafficking. The arrested suspects will face legal action as per the law.

In addition to enforcement efforts, the NDLEA has also been active in educating the community about the dangers of drug use and sales.

They have organized a campaign called War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), visiting 30 different public places like schools and markets in May alone. Through these efforts, they have reached over 11,000 people, giving information and counseling on the risks associated with hard drugs.

Elisha-David expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for providing support that helps the agency in its operations, as well as to other security agencies and the community for their cooperation in fighting against the illegal drug trade.
