NDLEA arrests 62,000 suspects, secures 11,600 convictions, seizes 10.3m kg of drugs in 51 months

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that it arrested 62,595 drug suspects, secured 11,628 convictions, and seized over 10.3 million kilograms of illicit drugs across the country in 51 months.

Chairman of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (rtd), made this revelation during a capacity-building workshop organized by the NDLEA for members of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses’ Forum (NGSF) in Abuja on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

He stated that the agency’s renewed drive is part of the implementation of the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) 2021–2025, aimed at eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria.

Highlighting the scope of the NDLEA’s operations, Marwa disclosed that, in addition to arrests and convictions, 1,330.56 hectares of cannabis farms were destroyed, and 24,375 drug users received counselling and treatment between January 2021 and March 2025.

He emphasized the importance of holistic approaches that balance enforcement with prevention.

“We have conducted over 10,500 drug sensitisation programmes nationwide under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, reaching 3.8 million participants,” Marwa said, calling for increased grassroots interventions.
