NATCOM Recruitment Stalls: Delta youths await clarity as DG faces police investigation
The recruitment process by the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NATCOM) has encountered unexpected delays due to an ongoing investigation involving the Commission’s Acting Director General, Otunba Adejere Rewane Adegbenro.

In an official statement released by Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, the senator’s office confirmed that the recruitment exercise held in April 2024 in Asaba, which involved 3,000 shortlisted applicants from Delta North Senatorial District, remains inconclusive as a result of the unfolding situation.

Dr. Nwoko explained that the Acting DG is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force for alleged fraud related to the broader recruitment initiative. According to verified information, Adegbenro was invited by the Special Weapons and Tactical Team (SWTT) on April 26, 2024, in response to a formal petition filed against him, marking the beginning of the inquiry.

In a notable show of commitment to youth empowerment, Senator Ned Nwoko personally covered the processing fees for all 3,000 Delta North applicants who participated in the screening.

This move aligns with his long-standing dedication to fostering meaningful employment opportunities for unemployed youth in the region.

Dr. Nwoko called for calm and patience among applicants and the wider public, assuring them that official updates on the recruitment status will be communicated once the investigation concludes.
