Renowned music executive and entrepreneur, Ubi Franklin is navigating the devastating grief of losing his sister, who succumbed after a courageous battle with cancer.
In a heartfelt tribute to his sister, Ubi portrayed her not just as a sibling but as a cornerstone in his life, someone who profoundly influenced his journey and helped shape the man he is today.
He shared: “Today,, death visited me and took one of the most precious gifts life handed me… my sister. She was the one who nurtured the Ubi Franklin you all recognize.
“Her unwavering support opened my eyes to the richness of life and its experiences.”
Ubi reminisced about moments in their lives, particularly reflecting on the year 2004, when their world shifted dramatically with the passing of their father.
Following the loss, Ubi said he moved in with his sister and her husband in Abuja, where he found a new sense of stability.
He added that it was during a memorable holiday trip she orchestrated in 2005 that he first journeyed to Lagos, a trip that unknowingly marked the genesis of his thriving career in the music industry.
“She would often tease me, saying, ‘Before anyone else, you were my personal assistant.’ This affectionate nickname remained, a testament to our bond, right through to her final days,” he recalled warmly.
Ubi revealed that he was fortunate to spend cherished moments with her from April up until early July, just before he traveled to the UK.
On July 3, he bid her farewell, full of hope for their reunion upon his return.
Tragically, just days later, she left Lagos to return to her immediate family in Abuja, where her condition worsened rapidly and she was placed in the ICU.

“I fought with everything I had to reach her in Abuja, but tragically, while I was airborne… she took her last breath,” he recounted, a deep sorrow evident in his voice.
He said that upon landing in Abuja at around 4:20 am, he wasn’t informed of her passing until several hours later, a moment that added to his anguish.
Despite the overwhelming pain of his loss, Ubi expressed a profound sense of gratitude for the life she led and the immeasurable love and invaluable lessons she imparted to him.
“This is one of the greatest losses I have ever experienced,” he acknowledged. “Yet, I am eternally thankful for the privilege of knowing her, sharing life’s journey with her, and being molded by her wisdom and kindness.”
He described her as selfless, kind-hearted, and remarkably good—qualities echoed by all who had the honor of knowing her and who now grieve her departure.
“This loss is profoundly painful; it has etched an indelible scar in my heart. But my love for you will endure forever, and I take comfort in knowing… you are in a better place.”
