An airstrike by an army jet inadvertently targeted a village in Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of six civilians.

The tragic incident occurred while the military was pursuing armed bandits, who had recently attacked a local police base, killing two policemen and a vigilante.
Witnesses from Zakka Village, said the military aircraft dropped a bomb on huts at the village’s outskirts, leading to the tragic deaths of family members inside.

One local resident recounted that the remains of the deceased had to be gathered in bags for burial.

Amnesty International has called for an immediate and impartial investigation, with reports indicating that at least 10 people may have died in the strike.

The military has not yet commented on the latest incident.

It would be recalled that a military airstrike in January this year, resulted in the death of 16 people, and another airstrike in December killed 10 persons.

In Kaduna State that month, an airstrike tragically struck a Muslim gathering, claiming the lives of around 85 individuals, mostly women and children.

However, the deadliest of these incidents occurred in January 2017, when a fighter jet bombed a displacement camp, killing at least 112 people who were seeking refuge from Boko Hara attacks.
