Massive protest in Yola as campaign for clemency for Sunday Jackson mounts

Thousands of peaceful protesters on Monday, took to the streets of Yola, the Adamawa State capital as the campaign for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to grant clemency to Sunday Jackson, sentenced to death mounts.

The protesters are united in their demand for clemency for Jackson, a farmer and student, whose death sentence handed down by the Supreme Court for killing a Fulani herdsman who attacked him on his farm has sparked widespread outrage.

The protesters are calling for justice and mercy. They held signs that read: “Stop the execution of Sunday Jackson,” and “Clemency now”.

The protesters are not alone in their quest to seek freedom for Jackson. Organizations like ActionAid Nigeria, the Lutheran Church of Cgrist, and the Gongola Peoples Forum (GPF) have joined the chorus, condemning the apex court’s decision and appealing for a state pardon.
