The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud has reaffirmed the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) commitment to strengthening health services by investing in infrastructure, workforce development, and enhanced collaboration among healthcare professionals.

The minister gave this commitment at the maiden summit of the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria, held at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

Mahmoud highlighted the increasingly vital role of dental technologists within multi-disciplinary dental care teams in both public and private institutions, especially as global awareness of oral health and modern prosthetics grows.

She, therefore, called on participants to pay attention to the transformation brought by digitization and artificial intelligence, urging practitioners to embrace innovation, prioritize standardized training, and pursue global competitiveness.

The minister further advocated for a culture of research and increased local production of dental materials to reduce import dependence.

Also, the minister charged summit participants to engage in strategic discussions that would yield actionable recommendations, informing national policy and elevating professional standards.

She reiterated the FCT administration’s continued support for initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery and expressed pride in the profession’s achievements.

On his part, the Registrar of Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria, Malam Idris Bappah, revealed that the summit would provide an opportunity to discuss how practitioners could best support them in enhancing the profession.

“This submit is a critical platform for us to collectively identify obstacles and propose innovative solutions that will strengthen the human factor within our profession,” she said.

The highpoint of the programme was merit awards to those who have immensely contributed to the growth and development of the profession.
