However, his empire was shaken in the late 1980s after a widely publicized sex scandal in New Orleans, which led to a dramatic, tear-filled televised confession where he declared, “I have sinned.” The moment became one of the most iconic and controversial in the history of American televangelism.

Despite the setback, Swaggart continued to preach and rebuild his ministry. His resilience earned him a devoted following that remained loyal over the decades, tuning in to his sermons from the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, where he continued to preach well into his later years.

Jimmy Swaggart is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Frances Swaggart, their son Donnie Swaggart, three grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The Christian community across the world has begun pouring in tributes, honoring his decades-long contribution to global evangelism, gospel music, and media ministry.
