Kenyan deep tech startup Fastagger is revolutionizing how small businesses access and use artificial intelligence. At a time when AI remains out of reach for many due to internet constraints and low-end devices, Fastagger is building a future where connectivity is no longer a barrier to innovation.
Founded by Mutembei Kariuki, alongside co-founders Jude Mwenda and Stephanie Njerenga, Fastagger has engineered AI tools that run directly on basic smartphones, even without internet access. This groundbreaking approach helps MSMEs, the lifeblood of Africa’s economy, tap into real-time business intelligence without needing expensive infrastructure or high-speed connectivity.
Fastagger’s mission gained momentum when it joined the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First program, giving the team access to resources to refine their infrastructure and develop scalable, sustainable AI solutions tailored for African markets. By building tools that process financial data and deliver customer insights offline, Fastagger has helped barbershops, shops, and other local businesses boost sales and customer retention even through simple WhatsApp reports.

Launched in March 2024 in partnership with Safaricom, Auni saw over 600 MSMEs onboard within its first month. Business owners now understand their top customers and sales patterns without needing internet or cloud access.
Fastagger is not stopping at Kenya. With ambitions to expand into Tanzania, Ethiopia, DRC, Egypt, and beyond, the startup is positioning itself as a continental leader in democratizing AI-proving that Africa can build smart, inclusive tech for its unique challenges and opportunities.
