Kano commissioner supports 500 families with foodstuffs

The Kano State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled, Amina Sani, has supported 500 families in the state with foodstuffs and condiments in commemoration of the International Day of the Family, which is marked every May 15.

The food pack which contains 2kg of rice, 2 ltres of vegetable oil, a pack of seasoning, and salt among others, were distributed to beneficiaries on Saturday, at the premises of the ministry.

At the event, the commissioner described the family as the bedrock of the society, and their well-being is crucial to the development of the state and nation as a whole.

She said the support would help beneficiaries provide for their families and reduce poverty.

“This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to promote family welfare and reduce poverty in our state.

“We recently demonstrated our commitment to supporting families during the International Women’s Day, where we supported over 2,000 families, and this initiative is ongoing.

“These initiatives aim to promote dignity, reduce poverty, and enhance the overall well-being of families.

“Specifically, we will be providing sensitization lectures, entertainment, and other forms of support to families,” she stated.

The commissioner also commended the state Governor, Abba Yusuf, for his committment towards improving the lives of families in the state, which he has demonstrated through various initiatives such as the monthly disbursement of N50,000 to 5,200 youths and women, livestock farming and agriculture empowerment, and scholarship support.

She however, reinstated the ministry’s commitment to supporting families and addressing issues around poverty, social exclusion, lack of access to education and healthcare, urging other stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders, to join hands in providing families in need with the necessary resources and opportunities to succeed.
