Kano allocates N3bn to sponsor 141,715 students for NECO, NABTEB, NBAIS
Kano State has announced the release of the 2024 Senior Secondary Qualifying Examination (SSQE) results, with over 75 percent of public school candidates qualifying for the state-sponsored national examinations (NECO, NABTEB, NBAIS).

The state Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, while briefing journalists on Friday evening, noted that the state is sponsoring all eligible indigent candidates who scored at least five credits for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

He explained that the SSQE is a key academic benchmark used to identify students eligible for state-sponsored national examinations.

Makoda highlighted that in the preceding year, the state sponsored 125,000 candidates, whereas a total of 141,715 candidates from public schools under the Kano Education Resource Department (KERD), the Science Board, and Arabic and Islamic Education Department (AIED) sat for the examinations with over 75 percent qualified for state sponsorship.

According to him, the initiative is costing the state over N3 billion, and is part of the government’s aggressive efforts to enhance educational access, promote academic excellence, and reduce financial burdens on families across Kano especially the vulnerable.

While reaffirming the commitment of the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf to youth development and economic growth through education, he urged the principals to ensure all eligible candidates unconditionally access their results transparently.

Makoda however, pointed out that further details on the registration process for national examinations will be provided by the ministry.
