Joint Task Force vows to restore peace in Benue

The Joint Task Force, known as Operation Whirl Stroke (JTF-OPWS), has vowed to restore peace to the troubled communities in Benue State.

The commander of JTF-OPWS, Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, shared this promise in a statement on Tuesday. The statement was signed by the acting media officer for the task force, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu and was provided to reporters in Makurdi.

During a recent visit to significant areas where the task force operates, Gara urged his troops to maintain their confidence, stay alert, and follow professional standards closely.

He explained that the task force is using a combination of methods to deal with criminal groups causing unrest in the state. This includes both direct action and other supportive strategies to restore safety.

Gara emphasized the importance of dedication, resilience, and discipline in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry. He assured everyone that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would continue their efforts until peace is fully restored in the region.

He stated that all individuals involved in violence and insecurity will be identified and brought to justice according to the law and military regulations. He declared, “The era of impunity is over. We are here to reassure our people that the military is committed to protecting lives and property, and that no criminal will escape punishment.”

During his tour, Gara also took the opportunity to assess the morale and readiness of his troops and their equipment. He spoke with field commanders to gather information on current operations aimed at removing armed groups and other threats.

Places he visited during the tour included Naka, Gwer West, Otukpo, Agatu, and the APA Local Government Area.
