The Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has petitioned Governor Francis Nwifuru, alleging plans to shortchange the community in the boundary demarcation process between the community and Abaomege communities.

The community also called on Gov. Nwifuru to urgently intervene to prevent the injustice from happening, while hailing his dogged efforts at maintaining peace and orderliness in all parts of the state.

Briefing newsmen on Tuesday night, President-General of Ishinkwo community, ltumo Nwaliebu, said the community is drawing the governor’s attention to the issues plaguing the boundary demarcation exercise between Ishinkwo and Abaomege.

Nwaliebu said the community has written severally to the governor, to complain about the discrepancies noticed by the community in the ongoing boundary demarcation exercise.

He accused the boundary demarcation implementation committee of shrouding the demarcation exercise in secrecy and jeopardising the procedure agreed approved by the state government for the exercise.

The Ishinkwo community president general appealed to Gov. Nwifuru to direct the demarcation implementation committee to adopt the principle of fairness, equity, and proximity in the allocation of the eight contentious swamplands to any of the contending communities.

Nwaliebu alleged that contrary to the recommendations of the government white paper on the boundary adjustment, the exercise has been hijacked by powerful interest groups to the detriment of the Ishinkwo community.

“However, we as a people have a right to live, wherever Almighty God has planted us to live. Sir, the weak, downtrodden, and minority in society ought to be given the right to co-exist with the larger society.

“The boundary demarcation committee has abandoned the use of the official gazetted white paper and preferred to implement the old purported boundary of Abaomege community, and has discarded the idea that Ishinkwo community equally has its boundary,” he said.
