The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially issued the notice of polls for the upcoming area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The elections are scheduled to take place on February 21, 2026, starting at 8:30 am across all polling units in the FCT.
In a statement released on Wednesday, INEC emphasized that only eligible voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and whose names appear on the voter register will be allowed to vote.

The commission also confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter authentication during the exercise.
The election will cover all six area councils in the FCT, and INEC has urged registered voters to ensure they have their PVCs, as the commission has maintained a strict no PVC, no voting policy.
“Eligible voters shall cast their votes at polling units where they are registered. Only persons whose names appear on the voter register and possess valid PVCs will be allowed to vote,” INEC stated.
With the elections fast approaching, INEC has called on residents of the FCT to prepare accordingly and participate in the democratic process.
