Former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, has proved cynics wrong over a purported feud between him and the incumbent Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on who produces the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections, describing Okowa as a true democrat.
According to Ibori, who spoke during the weekend at the PDP mega rally held in Asaba, the state capital, Okowa has provided sound leadership for the party and the state, adding that he has opened up the vista for democracy to thrive.
He commended Governor Okowa for his leadership prowess in piloting the state and the PDP, both at the state and national levels.
He said: “My dear governor, I thank you for the job you are doing in Delta State. I thank you for your presence and what you are doing at the national level for the benefit of Nigerians.
“I especially want to thank you for what I am seeing here today. This is because you have done very well in Delta State that is why we are witnessing what is happening here today.
“I want to also salute our great party, the PDP. I am proud that you are our governor today and I say that and you know it is from the bottom of my heart. Thank you very much. You have led us and you are leading us very well.
“We must commend you to finish very strong and at the end of the day, we will all doff our hats for you. From what I can see here, you have provided an atmosphere for a free and fair contest; you have provided an atmosphere for people’s aspiration to be aired without fear of intimidation whatsoever.

“I can recall the day our party was launched in 1998 at the old Maringa in Asaba when I stood up to say democracy is for everybody and anybody to aspire to be whatever he or she wants to be and I thank you for you have led in such manner.
“I want to on behalf of our great party at all levels, unit, ward, local government and state thank you and pray that God will continue to guide you as you lead us in the years ahead.
“I don’t believe that your leadership will be terminated at the end date of your tenure; I don’t believe that. I am bold to say that you have earned your strides and your strides will carry you on by the grace of God,” he said.
