Gunmen abduct APC ward Chairman Adepoyigi in Ondo

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifon Ward 5, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, was abducted by unidentified gunmen on the evening of Monday, May 12, 2025.

Reports say the kidnapping occurred along the Benin-Ifon-Owo Expressway, at the entrance of Adepoyigi’s farm.

The full circumstances surrounding the abduction remain unclear as of Tuesday morning.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated: “I can confirm to you that the chairman APC Ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along the Ifon-Owo Road.”

In response, the divisional police officer in Ifon, in collaboration with local hunters, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and Nigerian Army personnel, have launched an intensive manhunt to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victim.

The police have urged members of the public with useful information to come forward to aid the investigation and rescue efforts.

Authorities are also advising residents in the area to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies immediately.

This latest abduction highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Ondo State, particularly along rural routes such as the Benin-Ifon-Owo Expressway.
