The preferred aspirant of Governor Udom Emmanuel, Pastor Umo Eno, has emerged flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for 2023 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.
Announcing the result of the primaries at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday, the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Nomination Committee in Akwa Ibom State, Philip Shaibu, said Umo Eno scored 993 votes to defeat 13 other contestants in the party primaries election.
Shaibu, who is the Deputy Governor of Edo State, said the breakdown of the result shows that Senator Bassey Albert scored 1 vote, Hon Onofiok Luke, 3 votes, Ide Owodiong 1 vote while Mr James Iniama pulled 1 vote as well as other contestants who had no votes. He said a total number of 1018 delegates across 31 local government areas in the state were accredited for the party primaries conducted in a free and fair atmosphere. Shaibu explained that the energy and unity displayed by delegates during voting will be used to kick out opposition parties during the general elections in 2023.
Addressing party delegates and supporters after the nomination, Pastor Umo Eno urged other contestants in the party primaries to join hands for the success of the party in 2023. Umo Eno disclosed that the nomination had proved naysayers wrong as they claimed that it won’t be possible for him to emerge as the standard-bearer of the PDP in the general elections. He, therefore, appealed to losers in the election to accept the poll’s outcome as they may win in the future.

The PDP flagbearer asked all the contestants to join hands and work for the party during campaigns so that they can jointly chase out the opposition party in the state. He promised to continue the development blueprint of Governor Udom Emmanuel, especially in Industrialization, Road Infrastructure, Tourism, Agriculture, Education and Economy.
In his solidarity message, Governor Udom Emmanuel congratulated the PDP flagbearer and urged all the contestants to accept the result and work for the stability of the party.
“The Governor is one person but the government is for all. All of you should come together let us deal with our common enemy of Akwa Ibom people who hate infrastructure and prosperity of the people,” he said.
