Governor Bassey Otu has approved construction for two flyovers and the upgrade of a 4.8-kilometer road in Calabar.

This announcement was made by Mr. Darlington Edem, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on Friday.

The new flyovers will be built at the busy Mobil junction and at the Effio-Ette roundabout. According to Edem, this project is part of the government’s plan to enhance the look and feel of Calabar.

The improvements aim to reduce traffic jams, make the roads safer, and boost economic activity in the city. “A flyover at Mobil Junction will connect with Murtala Muhammed Highway, while the one at Effio-Ette will link several important roads,” he explained.

Designs for the project are complete, and preparations are underway to start construction soon. This initiative is part of a bigger vision to make Calabar a modern and business-friendly city.

With less traffic congestion and better roads, daily life will improve for many commuters and residents. “This isn’t just about building roads; it’s an exciting leap toward the future for Calabar,” Edem stated.

The 4.8-kilometer road improvement will be split into two parts. The first part, which is 1.7 kilometers long, will stretch from Mobil Junction to Effio-Ette Roundabout. The second part will be 3.1 kilometers, running from Effio-Ette Roundabout to the Goodluck Jonathan Bypass Roundabout.
