Gov. Buni inaugurates Yobe Climate Change Council
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has taken a major step in tackling the challenges of climate change by inaugurating the Yobe State Climate Change Council on Erosion and Restoration.

The council aims to address the adverse effects of climate change, develop mitigation strategies and spearhead efforts to restore degraded ecosystems across the state.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, Gov. Buni highlighted the urgency of addressing the environmental threats facing Yobe State.

Known for its vulnerability to desertification and land degradation, the state, according to him, is at significant risk of climate-induced challenges that threaten the livelihoods of its residents.

During its inaugural meeting, the council deliberated on key issues, including ecosystem restoration, climate change mitigation and the formulation of a state-specific climate change policy.

By establishing the climate change council, Gov. added that the state is demonstrating proactive leadership in addressing environmental issues and securing a resilient and sustainable future for its citizens.

The initiative, as collectively agreed by the council, underscores Gov. Buni’s commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable development in Yobe State.
