FRSC confirms 19 dead, 8 hospitalized in Kogi auto accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed on Monday that 19 people died and eight others were hospitalized in a tragic auto accident on Sunday, along the Lokoja-Obajana Road in Kogi State.

Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, shared this information with reporters in Lokoja.

He stated that some of the survivors suffered from cuts, bruises, broken bones, and burns.

Tsukwam revealed that the accident occurred at the Gadabiu community around 4 pm, when a truck collided head-on with a Toyota Hummer bus that was traveling from the South to Abuja.

The FRSC commander explained that the bus was speeding and attempted to overtake a truck, but ended up facing another truck coming from the opposite direction.

“It’s a very sad situation. The crash could have been avoided if the drivers had adhered to speed limits and traffic rules,” he said.

He confirmed that out of the 27 people involved in the accident, only eight survived.

Rescue teams, along with the police, managed to help the survivors and rushed them to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for urgent medical care.

The FRSC commander urged drivers to remember that highways are not racing tracks.

He emphasized the importance of following traffic rules and being cautious to help reduce the number of accidents and improve road safety across the country.
