First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has advocated for inclusion and the rights of people with albinism, making a commitment to champion the rights and overall well-being of individuals with the condition across the nation.

In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, the first lady expressed her solidarity with the albino community as the nation marks this year’s International Albinism Awareness Day.

International Albinism Awareness Day is observed every June 13. This year’s theme: “Demanding our rights: Protect our skin, preserve our lives,” highlights the important fight for fairness and equality for people with albinism.

Sen. Tinubu highlighted that the theme serves as a poignant reminder that all persons living with albinism deserve equal rights, dignity, safety, and accessible, quality healthcare services.

“It is essential to cultivate a society where every Nigerian, irrespective of their skin colour, can live proudly, with dignity and respect.”

In recent weeks, Nigeria’s albino community has initiated a robust campaign aimed at combating persistent discrimination and stigma faced by individuals with albinism.

The campaign not only seeks to raise awareness about their challenges but also aims to educate the public on the importance of inclusivity and the protection of human rights for every citizen, regardless of their appearance.
