FGC Kano, King's College in National Principal's Cup opener

Federal Government College (FGC), Kano, will face King’s College, Lagos, in the ceremonial kick-off of the National Principal Cup football tournament in Lagos.

Briefing journalists in Kano, the organiser and Managing Director of Ideas Plus, Tony Pemu, said the opening is scheduled to take place on October 10, 2025, at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos.

He said his visit to Kano was to witness the student’s training session, where the 20 best players will be selected to represent the team.

Also, Pemu added that the competition is organised in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education, La Liga and other partners who intend to pick talents for mentoring and coaching.

“We’ll also try in this edition to look out for those who have some other backroom talents. We want to search for students who have the flair to run commentary, do sport writing, and everything that has to do with the game.

“We’ll do our best to get them, develop it, and ensure that they get the platform to develop their career in the sporting industry,” Pemu stated.

While noting that the preliminary games will continue at the state level with about 26,000 schools to participate from Monday after the opening game, he hinted that, the finals would hold between November 18-20, 2025, to be hosted by either Kano or Katsina States.

The Principal of the FGC, Kano, Mrs. Hafsat Adebayo, said the school is in high spirits to make it to the end of the tournament.

She however advised the students not to be intimidated especially by the Lagos venue, saying they are all unity schools and one Nigeria.

In his remarks, the team’s coach, Bamigbade Ademola, expressed confidence in winning the opening match, noting that, they won’t take the opportunity for granted being their first time of outing in a major competition.
