The federal government has rejected the recent security advisory from the U.S. Embassy, which advised its staff and their families against non-official travel to military sites and other government facilities in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement on Monday, Information and National Orientation Minister, Mohammed Idris, acknowledged the right of foreign missions, including the U.S. Embassy, to issue travel advisories, but emphasized that Abuja is safe for all citizens, residents, and visitors.
He stated that “Nigeria’s security agencies are tirelessly working to ensure the safety and protection of everyone in the FCT and throughout the country.
“The current security measures in Abuja have been proactive and have achieved notable success in detecting, preventing, and neutralizing threats.”
Idris noted that the U.S. advisory is based on general global trends and does not indicate any specific or imminent threat in the FCT.

He reassured diplomatic missions, investors, development partners, and the public that there is no reason for concern.
The federal government reiterated its dedication to the safety of all residents and to upholding Abuja’s status as one of the safest capitals globally.
“Our security and intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the situation nationwide and are fully prepared to respond effectively to any threats.
“We encourage citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear while remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious behavior to the appropriate authorities,” the minister concluded.
