The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has started a new initiative called ‘Operation Sweep’ to clean up Abuja by removing miscreants, street beggars, scavengers, and other criminal elements from the streets.
Spokesperson for the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, Mr. Lere Olayinka shared this information in a statement on Wednesday.
He explained that the operation aims to make Abuja and its neighbouring towns safer and more pleasant for everyone.
The operation will also target ‘one chance’syndrome where criminals pretend to be taxi drivers to trick unsuspecting passengers into their vehicles and then rob them.

Olayinka emphasized that the goal is to keep the capital city a beautiful and safe place, free from disturbances caused by beggars and scavengers, who are often connected to criminal activities.
“To carry out this mission, a special team made up of security agencies and other local organizations has been formed.
“They will be actively on the lookout for people who are begging, loitering, or engaging in any behavior that threatens the safety of residents.
“Those found in such situations will be identified and sent back to their home states,” he said.
