The FCT Police Command Headquarters in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, presented welfare cheques totaling ₦37,388,829.25 to the families of thirty-nine (39) police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty while serving under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
The welfare disbursement was carried out on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, as part of ongoing efforts to improve police welfare and support the families of personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and public safety.
The financial support was drawn from three major insurance and welfare schemes: the Group Life Assurance (GLA), the Group Personal Accident (GPA) cover, and the Inspector-General of Police Welfare Insurance Scheme (IGPFW)—comprehensive safety nets designed to cushion the impact of tragic losses on dependents of fallen officers.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, CP Ajao described the gesture as a reflection of the Force’s deeply-rooted tradition of honouring the sacrifices of its officers and strengthening the morale of personnel through tangible and symbolic acts of support.
“These cheques represent more than financial support. They are a symbol of our respect, remembrance, and solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes,” CP Ajao remarked.

He emphasized that the IGP, under his current leadership, remains committed to the welfare and dignity of every officer within the Nigeria Police Force. According to him, robust welfare policies—backed by institutional reforms and strategic partnerships—are central to boosting the morale and operational efficiency of the police across all commands.
The event was attended by senior officers of the Command, representatives from insurance companies collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force, and family members of the deceased officers, some of whom were visibly moved by the gesture. The Command also used the opportunity to reassure the bereaved families of continued support beyond financial compensation.
“The IGP’s vision is to ensure that no family of a police officer who dies in the line of duty is left unsupported. It is a moral responsibility we owe to those who gave their lives in service to our nation,” CP Ajao added.
The Commissioner further noted that the current administration under IGP Egbetokun has taken significant steps toward institutionalizing police welfare as a key component of internal security reform, with ongoing initiatives addressing health insurance, housing support, educational scholarships for children of deceased officers, and enhanced retirement packages.
For the families in attendance, the ceremony served as both a source of relief and a solemn reminder of the sacrifice their loved ones made. Some expressed gratitude for the support while calling for sustained attention to the welfare of police personnel, both serving and retired.
The FCT Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ajao, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the gallant efforts and sacrifices of officers are never forgotten, and pledged to continue advocating for stronger policies that prioritize the wellbeing of police personnel and their dependents.
