The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 48 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, following a major sting operation by operatives of its Ibadan Zonal Directorate.

The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Friday.

According to the EFCC, the arrests were the result of sustained surveillance and credible intelligence linking the suspects to various forms of online fraud and cybercrime activities.

“The operation followed credible intelligence and painstaking surveillance that linked the suspects to fraudulent internet activities,” the statement said.

The EFCC confirmed that the arrested individuals will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“This crackdown demonstrates the Commission’s renewed resolve to rid Nigeria of cybercrime and hold perpetrators accountable,” Oyewale added.
