Educational Empowerment: Rep. Chimaobi Atu champions brighter future for Enugu’s youth
In a stirring call to action, Chief Chimaobi Atu, the Member Representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, has reaffirmed his commitment to educational empowerment as the most potent legacy for the younger generation. Speaking on Sunday at the inauguration of a newly constructed block of six modern classrooms at Coal Camp Primary School in Ogbete, Enugu, Rep. Atu highlighted that continuous investment in education is essential to prepare children for an increasingly interconnected global future.

Rep. Atu, whose efforts are in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, emphasized that education equips young Nigerians to face future challenges head-on. He stressed that nurturing academic excellence today would ensure that the nation’s youth excel in tomorrow’s competitive world. “We are equipping our children to stand out in a global village through massive and continuous investment in education at every level,” he declared, urging pupils, teachers, and school administrators to safeguard and maximize the use of the new facilities.

In addition to the classroom block at Coal Camp Primary School, Rep. Atu has made significant contributions to enhancing educational infrastructure across the region. Recently, he renovated the Chemistry Laboratory at the Department of Industrial Chemistry at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), his alma mater. This upgrade, aimed at enriching practical learning experiences, reflects his dedication to improving the quality of science education.

Through the Chimaobi Sam Atu Foundation (C-SAF), the lawmaker has also extended support to underprivileged students. In 2024, C-SAF awarded scholarships covering WAEC and school fees to over 106 brilliant SS-3 students from 24 public secondary schools in his constituency.

Continuing this momentum, in 2025, 245 top-performing SS-2 students received full sponsorship for WAEC and school fees after excelling in a test overseen by a Scholarship Board led by Dr. Chidi Ezinwa from ESUT. Top candidates in JAMB are also set to receive full tertiary education scholarships, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic pursuits.

Rep. Atu passionately declared that no capable student in Enugu North and Enugu South will be denied an education due to financial difficulties. His inclusive approach, which extends support regardless of political affiliation or background, underscores a vision of an empowered, educated generation driving the nation’s future.

The inauguration event, which brought together community leaders, local stakeholders, and dignitaries, resonated deeply with residents. Chief Paulinus Ani, a prominent community leader in Coal Camp, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the transformative gesture, promising robust community support in preserving the new classroom facilities. Notably, the historic Coal Camp Primary School, originally established by colonialists in 1924, is set for a renaissance after years of infrastructural decay.

As Rep. Atu continues to champion educational empowerment, his initiatives are sparking widespread optimism about the future of Enugu’s youth. The legacy of investing in education is not only a catalyst for personal growth but also a cornerstone for national development, ensuring that future generations have the tools they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
