Ebonyi Gov orders arrest of 6 over alleged theft of medical materials

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Ndukwe Ayansi and five others over alleged diversion of essential materials meant for the State Ministry of Health.

The incident unfolded during the governor’s routine inspection of state projects. He intercepted a Toyota Dyana truck loading official registers, books, and other materials from the Ministry of Health’s warehouse. Unsatisfied with the explanations provided, Governor Nwifuru probed further and discovered that critical documents, including patient data registers and hospital cards, had been unlawfully moved and sold without government approval.

“You are selling government documents without approval on a Saturday afternoon. Our rural hospitals are in desperate need of these registers, data entry forms, and hospital cards, yet the ones produced by the government are being sold by you. This is pure sabotage of our health sector efforts and will not be tolerated.”

The six suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Governor Nwifuru said he is committed to tackling corruption and ensuring transparency in public service. Stakeholders in the state’s health sector have applauded the governor’s swift action, emphasizing the importance of accountability to restore trust and efficiency in healthcare delivery.
