CHAN 2022 Qualifiers: Eagles to play Benin or Ghana

The Super Eagles B of Nigeria have been drawn to face the first round winner between Ghana and Benin in a two-legged qualifying tie to feature in the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nation Championship in Algeria.

The draw which was done in Cairo, Egypt, under the watchful eye of Algerian legend Djamal Menad, saw the most populous black nation categorised in the second round under Western Zone B alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Togo and Burkina Faso.

While the other Western Zone B teams have all had their opponents fixed for second round crackers, Nigeria hangs on the first round outcome of the home-away clashes between Ghana and the Benin Republic.

Meanwhile, Algeria got an automatic qualification as the host nation of the tournament and were joined by Libya and Morocco.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Libya and Morocco automatically qualified in the Northern zone as they were the only teams to engage.

Moreover, Nigeria’s first qualifying match whose opponent is predetermined by the aggregate of the first-leg schedule within 22-24 of July and the second-leg schedule within 29-31 of July, between Ghana and Benin Republic, will take place around 26-28 of August.

Following the Super Eagles B team first-leg tie, Nigeria who emerged as runner-up in the 2018 edition of the CHAN championship under the present coach, Salisu Yusuf, will play the second leg of the second round qualifying tie within 2-4 of September.
