Delta introduces smoke emission permits for commercial, company vehicles

Delta State has announced the introduction of a mandatory smoke emission permits for commercial, and company vehicles operating within the state.

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, the initiative is in line with the Delta State Internal Revenue Law, 2020, which will take effect from this year.

The move, the commissioner said is aimed at reducing the dangers posed by vehicle emissions, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

To facilitate compliance, the state government has approved, and authorized Markenard International Services Limited to oversee the collection of revenue for the smoke emission permits across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Vehicle owners are required to obtain the permit from the Vehicle Inspection Offices (VIO) statewide.

The state government warned that non-compliance will not be tolerated, warning that violators may face prosecution.

Agofure added that the introduction of the permit underscores the administration’s commitment to environmental protection, public health, and sustainable urban transport.

He advised vehicle owners to comply with the new regulation, to avoid penalties and for them to contribute to a safer, and cleaner Delta State.
