The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, for his relentless efforts in the fight against corruption. The praise came during a courtesy visit on February 13, 2025, where Nwakuche acknowledged Olukoyede’s leadership in tackling financial crimes and fostering transparency in governance.
During the meeting, Nwakuche underscored the importance of mutual respect and collaboration between the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) and the EFCC. He highlighted the dedication of EFCC personnel, particularly those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, and stressed the need for stronger institutional synergy.
He also expressed a keen interest in deepening cooperation between the two agencies, particularly in officer training, intelligence sharing, and efforts to decongest prisons. Citing alarming statistics, Nwakuche revealed that as of January 10, 2025, Nigerian correctional facilities housed over 80,000 inmates, with more than 53,000 still awaiting trial.

Olukoyede welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing that inter-agency cooperation is critical for national security and justice administration. He noted that the role of the NCS in reforming inmates is integral to the broader mission of the EFCC, which investigates and prosecutes economic crimes.
Congratulating Nwakuche on his recent appointment, Olukoyede reminded him of the expectations that come with leadership in a sensitive sector. He reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to intelligence sharing and institutional support, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for a corruption-free Nigeria.
