The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday granted the federal government’s request to conceal the identities of witnesses in the trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice James Omotosho granted the request after the lawyer for the prosecution, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), presented an emergency motion.
Awomolo explained that the witnesses’ identities needed to be concealed for safety concerns, as Kanu is facing serious charges related to terrorism.

He asked the court to ensure that the names of the witnesses remain concealed from the public for their safety.
Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) did not oppose the request but asked for similar protection from the federal government when it’s time to discuss Kanu’s bail.
The judge agreed to Agabi’s request.
At the same time, the first witness for the prosecution has begun giving his testimony as the government officially opened its case against Kanu.
