A major corruption scandal has shaken the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) following allegations involving N1.6 billion in financial misappropriation.
The fallout has led to the removal of the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Cyril Omini, by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem.
He is being replaced by the Member representing Akamkpa 1 State Constituency, Hon. Okon Nyong Owuna.

Hon. Omini, who represents Yakurr 1 State Constituency, was reportedly replaced in response to the serious allegations surrounding the committee’s financial oversight responsibilities.
While the details of the alleged misconduct are still emerging, sources within the Assembly suggest that the decision to remove Omini was part of a broader move to restore transparency and accountability in the House’s financial dealings.
