The theme for this year’s meeting: “Local government autonomy: An imperative for good governance and national development,” underscores the critical importance of empowering local governments to foster transparency, accountability, and sustainable development at the grassroots level.

The meeting began with a formal courtesy visit from the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, to Governor Alex Otti, at the Government House, Umuahia.

This interaction not only signifies the mutual respect between state and federal leadership but also sets the tone for the discussions that aim to address the challenges and opportunities surrounding local government autonomy in Nigeria.

Participants are expected to share insights, best practices, and potential strategies to enhance the efficacy of local governance, thereby contributing to the overall development of the nation.
