The Chinese embassy in Nigeria has pledged to assist the country in tackling cyber crimes involving Chinese nationals in the country.
The embassy made the pledge in a statement while reacting to the recent trial of Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in telecommunications and online fraud.
The statement highlighted China’s stance regarding cyber crime, acknowledging that telecommunications and online fraud were pressing concerns requiring international cooperation to combat.
The mission said China was ready to cooperate with Nigeria in solving the challenge posed by online fraud.
This, the embassy said, can be done through joint operations targeting online gambling, scams, and other transnational crimes to foster a more peaceful and secure cyberspace.
“Such collaboration will safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals in Nigeria and elevate the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights,” the embassy said.
The mission said the Chinese government maintains an unwavering stance against telecommunications and online fraud, as well as any form of cross-border illicit activities.
It acknowledged Nigeria’s efforts to combat the crimes over the past year, resulting in the arrest of numerous suspects, including some Chinese nationals.
