CAC issues urgent fraud alert, warns Nigerians against fake calls demanding company details, App downloads
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has raised a red flag over an emerging wave of fraudulent activities targeting Nigerian business owners and entrepreneurs. In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, May 23, the Commission warned the public to ignore suspicious phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp chats, or emails requesting the download of unauthorized applications or the disclosure of sensitive company information.

According to the statement, the CAC has received multiple reports of impersonators posing as Commission representatives, attempting to deceive customers into revealing confidential business details or installing rogue apps on their devices. The Commission firmly denied any association with such communications, stressing that it does not contact customers to demand app downloads or personal company data under any circumstances.

“The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) calls on its esteemed customers and the general public to disregard any phone call purporting to be from the Commission demanding the download of applications or disclosure of company particulars,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its commitment to secure and transparent service delivery, the CAC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to scams orchestrated by fraudsters seeking to exploit business owners through fake digital platforms.

This alert serves as a timely reminder for all business entities and entrepreneurs registered under the CAC to protect their official information and avoid engaging with unauthorized channels. The Commission emphasized that all legitimate communications will be issued through its verified platforms only.

As online fraud tactics evolve, the CAC’s warning is a crucial call to action, reinforcing the importance of cybersecurity and cautious digital engagement in Nigeria’s growing business environment.
