Buni approves ₦70,000 minimum wage for Yobe civil servants

Governor Mai Mala Buni

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved a ₦70,000 minimum wage for civil servants, aligning the state with other North-East governors who have already implemented the policy.

The announcement, made through a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, confirmed that the new wage will take effect from December 2024.

Yobe was previously the last state in the North-East region to adopt the updated national minimum wage. The delay, according to the statement, was due to ongoing efforts by a committee constituted by the state government to reconcile local government finances.

The reconciliation process, which aims to ensure a smooth transition to the new salary structure, is nearing completion. Once finalized, local government employees will also benefit from the wage increase.

Governor Buni urged civil servants to reciprocate this gesture by improving their efficiency and dedication to service delivery in the state.
