Bovi opens up on family patterns and forgiving his late father

Nigerian actor and comedian, Bovi opens up on family patterns and forgiving his late father while discussing the complicated and often strained relationship he had with his late father, shedding light on the pervasive “negative energy” that marked his family dynamics.

During the first live edition of the WithChude podcast, Bovi reflected on how his father’s struggles were passed down through generations, creating a cycle of emotional baggage.

In his remarks, Bovi stated, “What made the relationship with my late father difficult is what they call family patterns or what the church refers to as ‘generational curses.’ My father bestowed upon me what he had inherited, and unfortunately, that included a great deal of negative energy. He carried this burden himself, and I’ve consciously decided to be the one who breaks this cycle.”

Bovi acknowledged that in the past, he often spoke about his relationship with his father from a place of bitterness, focusing on the emotional void and lack of affection in their bond. However, he emphasized a transformative moment of forgiveness he experienced before his father’s passing in February 2025.

He shared, “When I used to recount that story, I played the victim, narrating the tale of a loveless relationship, coming from a place of hurt. But long before he left this world, I found it within myself to forgive him. My father had been battling illness since 2021, and during that difficult time, my siblings and I took on the responsibility of caring for him. I poured love into that care willingly, without resentment or struggle, demonstrating that forgiveness can foster healing.”
