When Zita inquired, “Are your parents strict Muslims?” Sultana clarified, “No, I grew up navigating both church and mosque environments. My mother is a devoted Christian, while my father practices Islam.” She reflected on her diverse religious experiences, mentioning that she was baptized in the Catholic faith and even has the baptismal name Josephine, a nod to her early Christian upbringing.

Sultana elaborated on her spiritual exploration, revealing that her decision to adopt Islam was not made lightly. She stated, “At some point in my life, I found myself exploring the teachings and practices of both religions, but ultimately, I chose Islam because it resonated more deeply with my beliefs and my personal spirituality.”

Her father, a practicing Muslim hailing from Adamawa State, and her mother, a Christian from Yala in Cross River State, provided a rich tapestry of cultural and religious diversity in her childhood.

Sultana’s profound connection to Islam, she shared, brought her a sense of fulfillment and alignment that she felt was missing in her experiences as a Catholic.
