Arsenal's target Gyokeres faces disciplinary action after missing pre-season training
Viktor Gyokeres, a target for Arsenal, is facing disciplinary measures from his club Sporting after he did not report for pre-season training, according to the club’s President, Frederico Varandas.

Varandas mentioned that any potential transfer is becoming “more complicated.”

Last week, Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Andrea Berta, met with the Swedish international Gyokeres in Portugal to discuss the matter.

Ongoing discussions are taking place with Arsenal, who remain optimistic about reaching an agreement, with their latest offer for the 27-year-old amounting to approximately 70 million euros (£60 million), including add-ons.

Last month, Varandas stated that there was no ‘gentleman’s agreement’ for Gyokeres to leave for 70 million euros, but he also noted that the club would not insist on the full release clause of 100 million euros (£85 million).

Gyokeres, who netted 54 goals in 52 matches last season, has not publicly clarified his absence from pre-season training.

Varandas told the Portuguese news agency Lusa that “no one is above the interests of the club.”

“We’re calm. Everything can be resolved with the closing of the transfer window, a significant fine, and an apology to the team,” Varandas said.

“If they don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we will be very comfortable with that for the next three years.

“If those who are orchestrating this strategy believe it puts pressure on me to facilitate his departure, they are not only mistaken but are also complicating the player’s exit.”

Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances during his two seasons in Portugal, helping Sporting secure two league titles.
