Air force, ministry partner to secure critical power infrastructure

The air force and the Federal Ministry of Power have agreed to partner in securing critical power infrastructure in the country.

The partnership was reached when the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, paid a visit to the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, in his office.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, the visit of the air force chief is aimed at promoting a cooperative spirit between both organizations within Nigeria’s defense and energy sectors.

During the visit, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that teamwork is crucial for establishing a more capable force that serves the public efficiently.

He highlighted the important link between national defense and consistent power availability, stating that dependable electricity is vital for military operations and overall national progress.

The statement further said the air force chief and the minister further discussed the ongoing initiatives by the air force to safeguard power infrastructure across the nation.

During the discussion in the meeting, the minister of power expressed gratitude for the air force’s professionalism and its contributions toward maintaining national security.

He recognised the necessity to protect power infrastructure, especially in regions experiencing conflicts.

Chief Adelabu reassured the air force chief that his ministry will persist in tackling the power challenges impacting air force installations and expressed a commitment to enhancing the relationship between the ministry and the air force.

Additionally, the minister emphasised that an effective energy transition strategy requires well-defined teamwork, pointing to Nigeria’s newly approved national integrated electricity policy as a foundational guide for aligning power generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as growth in gas-to-power and renewable sources.

He reiterated Nigeria’s critical role in influencing Africa’s energy landscape through its active involvement in the upcoming activities.
