Adamawa court remands 3 murder suspects in prison custody

The Chief Magistrate Court 3 in Yola, Adamawa State, on Monday, remanded three suspects in prison for their alleged involvement in the murder of Thomas Zamfara.

The accused, namely, Godwin Chakukuyada, Ibrahim Bakari, and Danlami Ali, faced charges in court connected to the supposed murder of the late Zamfara, while another individual, Stephen Peter, remains at large.

They were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, in violation of Sections 60 and 191 of the Adamawa State Penal Code, 2018, as revised.

The first information report before the court, indicate that the victim was attacked while traveling from Fadama Rake to Kala’a by political thugs believed to have been funded by a notable local philanthropist who’s name was not disclosed.

The report indicates that the accused persons physically assaulted the victim until he lost consciousness, and he was subsequently taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Hong where a doctor pronounced him dead.

During the arraignment, prosecutor Inspector Ali Emmanuel, requested that the first information report be presented to the accused persons to allow them to formally state their pleas.

When the case was called, all accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi decided to remand the accused persons, to allow the police finish their investigation, noting that one suspect is still at large.

The magistrate directed the case file to be sent to the state director of public prosecution for review and legal input.

He then adjourned the case until June 19, 2025.
