The African Action Congress (AAC) has issued a rebuke of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the federal government of deepening the suffering of Nigerian workers, especially educators, amidst growing economic hardship across the country.
In a statement released Tuesday, the AAC declared unwavering support for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has threatened a nationwide strike over the non-payment of June 2025 salaries. The party described the situation as a national disgrace and a deliberate attack on public education and workers’ dignity.
“When workers go hungry, the nation doesn’t have peace,” the AAC warned, blaming the Tinubu administration for what it called an “anti-worker, anti-education agenda” that puts the interests of politicians above the welfare of the people.
The party condemned the repeated delays in paying university lecturers, saying it is not just a bureaucratic lapse but a “class war” against those who build the intellectual backbone of the country. It accused the APC-led government of rewarding politicians with luxury while lecturers and public servants struggle to survive.

“What kind of government denies sustenance to those responsible for shaping the intellectual future of the nation?” the statement asked. “How can a government that fails to pay lecturers claim to be reforming education or driving national development?”
AAC also took aim at the hypocrisy of Nigeria’s ruling elite, who send their children to expensive schools abroad while public universities back home are underfunded, understaffed, and frequently shut down due to strikes.
“This is not mismanagement, it is sabotage,” the party said, adding that Nigeria’s education crisis is being deliberately engineered to keep the masses disempowered.
AAC called on all Nigerians to rise in solidarity with the nation’s educators and demand immediate payment of salaries and increased investment in public education. The party reiterated its call for a fully funded and democratically managed education system that prioritizes national development over elite enrichment.
